A mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Peggy K. Nitsos at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland.
Mrs. Nitsos died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 in Ashland.
— She was born on June 14, 1943 in Crescent City, California to George and Mary. She grew up in Fort Dick, California. She later attended Riddle High School in Riddle, Oregon.
— She graduated with a BS in 1964 and a MS in 1967 in Microbiology from Oregon State University.
— She married Ronald E. Nitsos on July 23, 1966 in Albany, Oregon. They moved to Ashland in 1969.
— She was one of the founders of La Leche League chapter in Ashland in 1970. She was also an active member of the Tudor Guild with the Ashland Shakespeare Festival for over 20 years, during which time she held the post of President and served on the board of directors. She also taught religious education classes at Our Lady of the Mountain, where she was an active member of the parish.
— She worked for over 20 years at Southern Oregon University starting at the bookstore, later working in the Business Services office and finally in the Financial Aid office. Starting as a financial aid counselor, she worked her way up to the position of Director of Financial Aid in 2002. She received many awards for her service at SOU, including the Elmo award for outstanding service and the State Financial Aid Directors award.
— Mrs. Nitsos loved cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, reading and traveling, especially to the Oregon Coast.
— She was preceded in death by her father, George of Fort Dick, California and her stepfather, Lawrence of Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
— She is survived by her husband, Ronald Nitsos of Ashland; son, Robert Nitsos and his wife Sarah of Hawthorne, CA; daughter, Athena Huschka and her husband Jeremie of Aurora, CO; mother, Mary of Myrtle Creek, OR; brother, Philip of Myrtle Creek, OR; and her three grandchildren, Haley, Devin and Calvin.
